Aker Biomarine Buys Antarctic Krill Vessel

OSLO, NorwayAker BioMarine has recently purchased the krill fishing vessel Thorshøvdithe from Krillsea Group AS for approximately NOK 138.9 million ($24.9M USD). The new vessel helps Aker with its goal of meeting the growing demand worldwide for krill ingredients. With this new purchase, Aker now owns and operates two krill trawlers and one freighter in the Antarctic Ocean.

The purchase was financed by continuation of the previously provided loan from Innovasjon Norge in the amount of approximately NOK 108 million ($19.4M USD) and an additional loan in the amount of NOK 30 million ($5.4M USD). The vessel comes outfitted with fishing gear, and Aker Biomarine received a purchase approval for and a krill trawl concession for fisheries of krill in remote waters by the Directorate of Fisheries.
