AUSTIN, Texas--Applied Food Sciences (AFS) has been formed byBioChemix Inc. and the food division of Oncology Sciences Corp. (OSC). The newcompany will specialize in the development and marketing of proprietarytechnologies and ingredients for the functional food and dietary supplementindustries. Loretta Zapp is the chief executive officer of AFS.

BioChemix holds the patents for D-glucarate and has licensed all its claimsto AFS, which will now be the sole bulk supplier of D-glucarate. Lyndon Johnsonwill remain responsible for D-glucarate sales in his new position as vicepresident of sales and marketing for AFS. "This simplifies the process byputting all of these technologies under one roof," Johnson stated.
