DAVIS, Calif.Arcadia Biosciences, Inc., an agricultural technology company, and Bioriginal Food and Science Corp., a global essential fatty acids solution provider, have entered a strategic partnership to market high GLA safflower oil, a rich source of up to 40 percent gamma linolenic acid (GLA). According to the agreement, Arcadia will produce the oil and Bioriginal will hold exclusive marketing and sales rights. Bioriginal has clearly staked out its leadership position in the global essential fatty acid markets, said Eric Rey, president and CEO, Arcadia. The companys established distribution network and marketing expertise will help expedite availability of High GLA Safflower Oil to consumers who want the health benefits that GLA can provide.

GLA is a proven, powerful essential fatty acid that has been significantly underutilized, said Joe Vidal, CEO, Bioriginal. Arcadias High GLA Safflower Oil can offer consumers a cost-effective and more convenient alternative to current GLA sources and could increase overall GLA consumption significantly. According to Arcadia, GLA safflower oil could significantly reduce the daily consumption of evening primrose and borage oil capsules, which contain 10 percent and 20 to 23 percent respectively, and make GLA more convenient and affordable for consumers.
