BASF Opens New Fine Chemicals Plant in Germany

MOUNT OLIVE, N.J.BASF openeda new production plant for the fine chemicals intermediate citral at itsLudwigshafen, Germany, site.

The plant has an annual capacity of 40,000 metric tons,replacing an existing plant with an annual capacity of 10,000 metric tons.Citral will become a key building block for BASFs fine chemicals, includingvitamins A and E and carotenoids.

The new citral plant not only offers a guarantee that wecan reliably supply our customers with the products they require, but also marksan important step toward ensuring our competitiveness, said MartinLaudenbach, head of BASFs fine chemicals division.
