Business Ethics Names Best Corporate Citizens

MINNEAPOLIS--Business Ethics magazinerecently released its 100 Best Corporate Citizens list, which recognizescompanies that display "good corporate citizenship" in their workingpractices. Companies named to the list included Ecolab, Green Mountain Coffee,Horizon Organic Holding, Nature's Sunshine Products, Whole Foods Market and WildOats Market. Green Mountain was noted for paying Fair Trade prices--$1.26 perpound of conventional coffee and $1.41 for organic coffee--to small farmercooperatives in Sumatra, Mexico and Peru, where market price ranges from 24 to50 cents per pound. The company was also recognized for buying 25 percent of itscoffee beans farm direct, which delivers higher prices to farmers by eliminatingmiddlemen.

Business Ethics magazine's goal is to promote greatersocial responsibility in business. This year's list is drawn from the Russell1000, a listing of the 1,000 largest public companies.
