WAYZATA, Minn. —Cargill Specialty Oil signed a long-term lease for a canola research farm in Aberdeen, Saskatchewan. The farm will support Cargill’s specialized hybrid breeding and production trials with 150 acres of quality crop land and an irrigation system capable of delivering a minimum of 5 million gallons of river water per year. “The research farm at Aberdeen will enable Cargill to centralize its hybrid breeding program right in the commercial production region,” said Alan Willits, president, Cargill Specialty Canola Oils. “It demonstrates Cargill’s commitment to serving the entire supply chain, providing highyielding Victory canola hybrids to farmers and oils with low saturated fat, and zero trans fats to food consumers.”
Cargill (www.cargill.com) is also unveiling nearly a dozen new prototypes at IFT Food Expo 2007, including innovations in the bakery, beverage, cereals and snacks, confections and dairy categories for health issues such as weight management, heart health and simple indulgence. Prototypes from Cargill include: baked goods with flavor variety and healthier fats; beverages that address bone health and energy; adult-focused indulgent cereal snacks; a healthful dairy drink and indulgent dairy treat; confections with no or reduced sugar, and low calories; and organic confection and organic low-calorie beverage products.
