Coke Acquires Mad River Traders

ATLANTA--Coca Cola Co. announced May 11 that it acquiredGreenwich, Conn.-based Mad River Traders Inc., a manufacturer of all naturalsodas and functional teas and juices. Terms of the acquisition were notdisclosed.

Mad River Traders began in 1989 by Marc Johnson with five sodas. As of 2000,Mad River Traders products were sold in 28 states (mainly in the Northeast,Mid-Atlantic and Northwest) and four countries. According to the companys Website, a 1998 episode of Dateline NBC featured Mad River Traders as aleader in the gourmet soda category.
