Degussa Creates New Business Unit

DUSSELDORF, Germany--Degussa AG disbanded itsHealth & Nutrition Division effective April 1. The units that made up thedivision--Flavors & Fruit Systems, BioActives, Feed Additives and TexturantSystems--were assigned to other divisions.

According to the company, there was a lack of "synergisticpotential" between the units, and this move allows the company to furthersimplify its organizational structure. The Feed Additives Business Unit becamepart of the Fine & Industrial Chemicals Division. Flavors & FruitSystems, BioActives and Texturant Systems integrated with the PerformanceChemicals Division, which was renamed Performance Materials. The new unit isestimated to have sales of approximately $666 million, which is comparable toother Degussa unit sales.

"This concentration of food activities into a singlebusiness unit will also improve Degussa's ability to meet market requirementsand enable it to serve food industry customers with a broad range ofsingle-source products," the company stated.
