Dr. Phil May Face Class Action Lawsuit

LOS ANGELESThree consumersare now seeking national class action status for a complaint filed in LosAngeles County Superior Court last year, alleging Dr. Phil McGrawdefrauded consumers with his weight loss products. The suit is centered on theShape Up! line of foods and dietary supplements, made by Irving, Texas-based CSANutraceuticals. The defendants allege McGraw made false and misleadingstatements about his products on his television show and other appearances.

In 2004, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) launched aninvestigation into whether the claims being made for the products were out ofline; CSA discontinued manufacturing the products at that point, and the agencyclosed its investigation.
