DSM Acquires Valley Research

HEERLEN, Netherlands—Royal DSM N.V. acquired the business and substantially all assets of Valley Research Inc., South Bend, Ind.; terms of the acquisition are not being disclosed. The acquisition strengthens DSM’s position in the food enzyme market, with DSM Valley Research operating as part of DSM Food Specialties, a supplier to the food and beverage industries. Art Sears, president of Valley Research, will serve as an advisor to the integrated operation.

Stephen Tanda, member of DSM’s managing board, said: “Our sales in food enzymes have shown strong growth in recent years. It remains a very interesting growth area for DSM and is one of the ingredients in reaching our targets as set out in ‘Vision 2010 – Building on Strengths.’ This acquisition will reinforce our leading global position in food enzymes and I expect Valley Research to generate additional value for our customers and shareholders.”

In addition to expanding DSM’s food enzymes portfolio, the acquisition also positions the company to offer regional blending and ingredient supply. The company noted DSM Valley Research will be a separate entity within DSM Food Specialties, guaranteeing a seamless customer service transition.
