DSM Opens R&D Center in China

HEERLEN, NetherlandsDSMopened a research and development (R&D) center in Shanghai, which will serveas the companys main base in China and will provide coordinated supportactivities for DSM Nutritional Products, DSM Food Specialties and DSM NeoResins.

DSM began its first phase of long-term growth in Chinathrough technology licensing activities in the 1960s, said Jan Zuidam, deputychairman of DSMs managing board of directors. For the past decade, DSM hasmade significant investments in the country; establishing this R&D footprintin China gives us the opportunity to integrate better with Chinas science andtechnology community and to get embedded into the Chinese business value chain.

DSM (www.dsm.com) is now seeking partnerships with researchinstitutions in China to develop products that meet the specific needs ofChinese consumers. It has already opened a joint laboratory with FudanUniversity.
