Eat, Drink and Network

SupplySide East included a bevy of networking events co-sponsored by Phoenix-based Virgo Publishing Inc., the host of SupplySide. Three parties over the course of three days--the International Welcome Reception, the Opening Reception and the Appreciation Party--provided executives with opportunities to grab a bite, have a drink and mingle with other industry members.

With Louis Armstrong playing in the background, the SupplySide International Welcome Reception Monday, May 6, kicked off the conference. The International Reception was bustling with networkers, as suppliers, manufacturers, consultants and other industry folk ate, drank and exchanged business cards. "I'm very happy with the international turnout at the show, especially since many of our business opportunities lie overseas," said Robert Whitelaw, vice president of sales and marketing at Capsugel, the co-sponsor of the event.

At Tuesday night's Opening Reception, co-sponsored by Roche Vitamins, attendees filled the atriums of both the Hartz Building and Embassy Suites to snack on sushi and imbibe in cocktails. Taking place at the end of the first day of the trade show, the event drew revelers to enjoy hors d'oeuvres while talking with coworkers, industry friends and newly made contacts.

"The Opening Reception was a nice opportunity for people to get together and enjoy themselves after a long day at the show," said Al Hirraka, director of sales and marketing for dietary supplements and health at Roche.

The Appreciation Party that ended the trade show took place in the exposition hall, offering strategically placed beverage and food tables to exhibitors and attendees. The event was a welcome repast. Dana Hicks, group trade show manager with Virgo Publishing, said that this event was a perfect conclusion to a well-attended show. "This party is our way of thanking everyone who supports SupplySide East," he said.
