Engelhard Acquires Sud-Chemie Business

ISELIN, N.J., and MUNICH, Germany--Engelhard Corp.(www.engelhard.com) acquired Sud-Chemie AG's fats and oils catalyst business in late October; terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquisition broadens Engelhard's offerings to the oleochemical markets, assisting in the manufacture of fats and oils derived from agricultural ingredients. The purchase included Sud-Chemie's fats and oils catalyst technology, trade names, and some manufacturing equipment; no employees or manufacturing plants were included in the transaction.

"Sud-Chemie has decided to divest this business as part of its strategy to streamline its portfolio development toward other strategic catalyst areas," said Jurgen Kammer, chief executive officer (CEO) of Sud-Chemie AG.
