BRUSSELS, Belgium—The European Responsible Nutrition Alliance (ERNA) added scientific fact sheets about L-carnitine, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and essential fatty acids (EFAs) to its roster of available information on bioactives available in the European market. ERNA’s fact sheets cover dietary sources of the ingredients, health effects, bioavailability, metabolism, recommended intake and safety. Past releases have covered individual vitamins (A,B,C,D and E), minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium, selenium and zinc) and carotenoids (beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein and zeaxanthin).

“In the light of the expansion of the EU Food Supplement Directive to substances other than vitamins and minerals, we have selected substances that are widely used because of their health benefits and collated the vast amount of information available into a clear and manageable format,” said Patrick Coppens, secretary general for ERNA. “Our fact sheets clearly demonstrate the usefulness of supplementing the diet with these substances.”
