GELITA Symposium Addresses Changing Markets

HEIDELBERG, Germany--The 2nd European GELITA Symposium, developed by the GELITA Group (www.gelita.com), was held here Oct. 6 and 7. More than 100 attendees representing food, dietary supplement and pharmaceutical companies participated in discussions centered around the focal point--searching for a unique selling point. Among the seminars were a discussion of the applicability of gelatin in sports and fitness products, the use of gelatin in confections, standards of comparison for hydrocolloids and marketing toward women. Regulatory updates included a discussion of gelatin and collagen products sold in Japan under the FOSHU scheme and appropriate scientific substantiation for health claims.
