The fifth-annual SupplySide West Golf Classic brought more than 180 golfers to Stallion Mountain Country Club to play in the best-ball tournament. The record number of participants meant splitting up onto two courses-Secretariat and Man O'War. Among the special offerings at the tournament, which was sponsored by B&D Nutritional Ingredients, were a $25,000 hole-in-one contest hole, a buffet lunch and a SupplySide West tournament fleece. The latter came in handy as the wind picked up and clouds moved in, marking another year with a chilly end to the golf outing.
The winning foursome boasted an 11-under-par score of 61. Players taking home that top trophy were Lee Covert, Paul Graham and Dave Hewitt of DuPont Protein Technologies, with Eric Barber from Valentine Enterprises. The second and third place teams both turned in score cards showing 63. Based off a handicap and hole review, second place went to Dave Anderson, Nature's Way; Paul Gillette, Tangram Co.; and Tony Worth, Buckton Scott. Third place went to Brick Chambers, Jerry Cochern, Keith Hensley and Bill Wallace from PL Thomas & Co.
Individual awards were also presented at the tournament. For longest drive, the winners were Tony Lucia, Archer Daniels Midland, and Jeri Harms, Sumitomo Chemical. Closest to the Pin winners were Lynda Hammons, with Nature's Sunshine Products, and Gary Lundell, Nature's Way.
