Growth Hormone Deficiency a Factor in Lack of Muscle Growth

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil--Growth hormone deficiency may notaffect muscle power during resistance training. In a study appearing in theOctober Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise (34, 10:1577-81,2002) (www.ms-se.com), Brazilian researchersevaluated 11 growth-hormone-deficient patients twice during pre-training, onceat six weeks of training and once again at 12 weeks of training. The volunteersdid five types of resistance exercises, as well as sit-ups. However, nosignificant differences occurred in body weight or limb circumferences. Thestudy's authors concluded that any improvements gained were most likely due toneuromuscular components.
