MELVILLE, N.Y.—The Hain Celestial Group (NASDAQ:HAIN) announced on June 11 it completed its acquisition of the tofu and meat-alternative segment of WhiteWave Foods Co., a subsidiary of Dean Foods Co. (DF). Products sold under the brand names TofuTown® and WhiteWave® include baked and grilled tofu, seitan, tempeh and other traditional tofu items sold through natural and conventional grocery stores and foodservice outlets. “Adding the tofu and meat-alternative business from WhiteWave Foods complements our existing Yves Veggie Cuisine® product line, strengthening and expanding our fresh, meat-free alternative product offerings to further support this sector of the growing natural and organic market,” said Irwin D. Simon, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Hain (www.hain-celestial.com). The company will not use the WhiteWave Foods trademark, but will continue to market existing products under the WhiteWave brand for a transitional period under license. Other terms of the acquisition, expected to close in June, were not disclosed.
