Industry Innovators to Converge at SupplySide East

Cutting Edge ingredient show nearly doubles education program

SECAUCUS, N.J.—The 11th annual SupplySide East trade show and conference announced an expanded education program with new tracks covering Foods & Beverages and Cosmeceuticals, nearly doubling the number of presentations versus previous years. In addition to the 4-track, 30+ session education program, SupplySide East also features an exhibit hall with hundreds of companies displaying natural, healthy and innovative ingredients, a variety of networking events, and new online tools to assist attendees in their preparation.

Highlights from the Education Program:

  • Vasilios Frankos, Ph.D., director of FDA’s dietary supplement program will give an update on GMP inspections, AERs, New Dietary Ingredients, and FDA enforcement activities.

  • Mintel’s Lynn Dornblaser will speak about up-and-coming ingredients for cosmeceuticals and personal care products.

  • Dr. Harry Preuss of Georgetown University Medical Center will discuss weight management and which ingredients actually work.

  • Brian Kuz, director of business insights at Red Bull North America will speak about the energy drink category.

  • Euromonitor’s Daniel Latev will provide an overview of the global health and wellness market.

  • The leaders of AHPA, CRN and NPA will address the State of the Industry on a two part panel.

  • Nicole Butterfass, manager of quality systems at American Dairy Queen will discuss food safety in a global economy.

  • The Hartman Group will present data from its new Healthy Eating Trends 2009 syndicated study.

  • Mark Blumenthal, founder and executive director of the American Botanical Council, will cover trends in the herb marketplace, including up-and-coming ingredients.

  • CRN’s Andrew Shao and Nutrilite’s Michelle Stout will speak about ingredient supplier qualification and GMP compliance.

  • Dr. Jack Bukowski, Harvard Medical School, will review recently published clinical trials on nutrients that affect the immune system.

The new Food & Beverage Track, sponsored by Sabinsa Corp., was developed with an Advisory Board that includes International Dairy Queen, Cadbury, The Hershey Company, SR Strategy and Park 100 Foods. The new Cosmeceutical Track, sponsored by AAK, was developed with an Advisory Board that includes Amway, Avon, Aveda and Estee Lauder. The two Nutrition Tracks, sponsored by EPAX, were developed with an advisory board that includes AHPA, Bayer HealthCare, CRN, GNC and NPA. The education program runs from noon to 4pm on April 27, and 9am to noon on April 28 and 29. All education session are in the Meadowlands Exposition Center and the neighboring Holiday Inn. In addition, the Natural Products Association is offering "An Advanced Course on the Final FDA GMP Rule for Dietary Supplements," from 8am to 5pm on Monday, April 27 and 8am to Noon on Tuesday, April 28. Speakers will discuss the impact and provisions of the final rule; participants will learn what is expected and the consequences of non-compliance. Registration is additional for this event. Largest Ingredient Show in the Northeast

SupplySide East also features the largest exhibition of healthy and innovative ingredients in the Northeast, an area with thousands of food, beverage, cosmetic and dietary supplement companies within driving distance. Hundreds of companies from around the world will display cutting edge ingredients and technologies at the Meadowland Exposition Center, including vitamins, herbs, flavors, sweeteners, probiotics, omega 3’s and more. The exhibit hall is open April 28 and 29, and the searchable exhibitor list is available at www.supplysideshow.com/east. This online tool allows users to search by company name, ingredient, brand name and services offered. It provides full contact information to enable attendees to plan meetings in advance, and it allows users to build lists of exhibitors to visit at the show. The search engine will also be available at the show itself. Discounted registration for access to the exhibit hall is available through March 27.

Networking Events Offer Great Opportunities

Several additional events offer continued networking. The SupplySide East Golf Classic, co-sponsored by Marco HI-Tech and INSIDER, will be held on Monday, April 27, from 8:30am to 2pm at a members-only private golf course, the Green Brook Country Club. Registration is $235 and includes greens fees, transportation, continental breakfast, lunch, awards and a raffle. SupplySide Happy Hour is set for Monday, April 27, from 4 to 5pm at the Meadowlands Exposition Center, immediately after the education program concludes for the day. The Opening Reception, Tuesday, April 28, co-sponsored by Food Product Design magazine, will be held in the exhibit hall during the last hour and a half of exhibit hall hours, 4 to 5:30pm. The Appreciation Reception, co-sponsored by Kyowa and insidecosmeceuticals.com, will be held on the exhibit floor from 3 to 4:30pm on Wednesday, April 29. All three receptions are open to all attendees, speakers and exhibitors.
