TOKYOResearchers from KOHJIN Life Sciences and Kyoto Prefectural University presented a report of their laboratory and in vivo studies at the International Union of Nutritional Science conference in Grenada, Spain, in September.

The research confirmed KOHJIN Glutathione's (GSH) ability to restore muscular energy through oral intake and absorption and creating a path forward for the tripeptides playing a role in everyday orally administered health care supplementation.

The studies also demonstrate mitochondrial biogenesis associated with the ingestion of a food product. In addition, oral intake of GSH resulted in a PGC-1alpha expression in skeletal muscle that can lead to acceleration of lipid utilization through activation of mitochondrial aerobic metabolism.

KOHJIN Life Sciences, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mitsubishi Corp., will be at SupplySide West to discuss these studies and to create awareness to the community about GSH.

GSH has a long history as a natural supplement to improve liver function and skin whitening but no significant increase of GSH has been detected in human blood after oral ingestion, leaving the benefits of GSH supplementation in question. By following the path of protein conjugates in blood serum, KOHJIN Life Sciences research was able to demonstrate conclusively its increased presence in human blood plasma following ingestion.
