ALLENDALE, N.J.Lonza appointed E.T. Horn Co., La Mirada, Calif., and Del-Val Food Ingredients, Moorestown, N.J., as its authorized U.S. distributors for FiberAid®. E.T. Horn currently distributes Lonzas niacin and niacinamide to the western United States and will add FiberAid to that list; Del-Val will supply FiberAid in the East.

In additional news from Lonza, the company officially opened a newly-acquired plant in Shawinigan, Canada, that is dedicated to the production of Pro-K, vitamin K3. The plant passed its ISO 9001:2000 and FAMI-QS certification audits in late November. Lonza manufactures K3 using the CeTECH process, for which the company holds the exclusive worldwide license; the process is an electrochemical cerium-based oxidation technology.

Finally, Lonza also announced a worldwide price increase of 15 percent to 17 percent for niacin and niacinamide for dietary supplement and food applications. The new prices are effective Jan. 1, and will affect all non-contract customers and other customers as contracts permit; Lonza stated the increase is necessary due to rising costs of raw materials, energy and transportation.
