Lonza Group Reorganizes
ZURICH--Lonza Group Ltd., based here, announced that itconducted a strategic review of its business and growth opportunities and hasreorganized its management structure to highlight the importance of technologyas a platform for growth. As such, R.H. Rupp, currently head of exclusivesynthesis and biotechnology, is promoted to deputy chief executive officer (CEO)and chief technology officer and will report to the CEO. Rupp will also head upthe Biologics operations until a final appointment is made.
Two businesses are scheduled to be divested: Polymer Intermediates (currentlyheaded by S. Marchlonne) and Energy (headed by R. Dirren).
Lonza's Biologics division announced that it has entered a manufacturingsupply agreement with Abgenix to provide Abgenix with exclusive access to one ofits manufacturing sites in Slough, England, for five years.
