NAFFS Convention to Explore the Real World Approach to Organics

In-depth presentations on a real world approach to formulating products for organics will be featured at the 90th Annual Convention of the National Association of Flavors and Food-Ingredient Systems, to be held Oct. 18 to 21 at The Resort at Longboat Key Club, Longboat Key, FL.
The two-day seminar program features presentations by several outstanding leaders in the organic industry. Fridays program kicks off with Ken Meyer of Whole Foods Marketthe worlds leading retailer of natural and organic foodsdetailing what Whole Foods is doing in organic, the changing landscape and the many challenges and benefits of organic and local production. Next Stephen Clark, Ph.D., of Florida Crystals Corporation will provide the latest scoop on organic sugars. Fridays program will conclude with Hugo Bovill of Treatt plc delivering an enlightening presentation covering demand vs. supplythe uneven supply chain, value-added ingredients and strategies to compete in the organic arena today and the next five years. This presentation will also include an interactive, hands-on session featuring tasting and smelling where Bovill will detail the differences between organic essences and non-organic oils.
Saturdays program features Ron Rash of Wizards Cauldron, who will delve into the definition of organic vs. natural. Rashs talk will encompass market size, growth areas, supply side, certification and opportunities for flavor and ingredient manufacturers in the market. Next, Patrick McNamara, partner, Scarinci & Hollenbeck, will deliver the latest developments in case law involving organic regulations, as well as regulatory and legislative issues impacting the industry. Sheila Linderman, organic certification & products specialist will cover the National Organic Programs ever-evolving position on flavors, how to deal with the current regulations and how to create flavors that satisfy changing criteria to keep your customers happy.
Aside from identifying organic opportunities and roadblocks, attendees will also be treated to delectable product samples by several speakers! The NAFFS Convention also offers abundant networking opportunities throughout the conference.
