NBJ: Functional Food MarketSet for Growth

SAN DIEGO--The Nutrition Business Journal (NBJ) announced the publication of its Functional Foods Report 2001, a review of the market as defined by eight categories and 37 subcategories. The report defines strategies used by food, ingredient, consumer health care, dairy and dietary supplement companies to create and market functional brands.

According toNBJ, U.S. sales of functional foods reached $18.5 billion in 2001, or 3.7 percent of the total food market of $503 billion. Annual growth is forecast at 5 percent to 7 percent in the United States over the next four years, slowing gradually thereafter to reach sales of $31 billion in 2010.
