SALT LAKE CITY—The Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) Board offered a post performance incentive of $1,996,600 to Nelson Laboratories. The company will invest more than $13 million to expand its facilities and purchase new equipment at its Salt Lake headquarters. The project will generate more than 350 new full-time positions at an average of 125 percent of the Salt Lake County average wage. Over the ten years of the project the new positions will generate wages in excess of $157 million. During the same period it will also generate new state tax revenue that will exceed $9.9 million.
Several partners have worked with The Governor’s Office of Economic Development to make this expansion a reality. The Utah Technology Council (UTC), the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) and EDCUtah have worked together over the past few months to solidify this expansion and put forth a competitive incentive offer.
GOED and EDCUtah are actively involved in recruiting companies in Utah’s Life Science and Bio Technology Clusters. “The headquarters and testing facilities of Nelson Laboratories in Utah greatly strengthens these target industries and the state’s economy as a whole,” said Jason Perry, GOED executive director.
“Our decision to further expand our testing capabilities in Utah is based on our ability to access world class talent, as well as the important partnerships we have developed in the state,” according to Jeff Nelson, president/CEO, Nelson Laboratories. “Additionally, we appreciate the Governor’s Office, UTC, BIO and EDCUtah have prioritized the growth of our industry through the development of policy that works to ensure that Utah companies can grow in the state and that our industry is recognized as one of the leading life sciences clusters in the nation.”
