BLOOMINGDALE, Ill.--On Sept. 23, NOW Foods (www.nowfoods.com) closed its acquisition of Nature's Apothecary, a manufacturer of natural herbal products based in Louisville, Colo. Financial details were not disclosed. Nature's Apothecary's manufacturing and distribution operations have been consolidated into NOW's location in Illinois.

Nature's Apothecary was owned and operated by the Weldon family, founders of Makers of KAL; the Weldons will no longer be involved in the company's operations. In a press statement, Lee Weldon stated, "I am pleased with the sale of the company to NOW Foods, another family-owned industry leader with a long history in the natural products arena. This will give Nature's Apothecary continuing opportunities for growth and expansion in the future."

The line of herbal supplements and personal care products will complement the current NOW Foods catalog, which includes an array of dietary supplements, personal care products and some foods/teas. According to Dan Richard, sales manager at NOW Foods, the company worked for about nine months on this acquisition and is continuing to look at acquisitions of other small- to medium-sized, privately held domestic and international companies.
