Nutracon to Follow Expo West

SAN DIEGO--New Hope Natural Media is moving its Nutracon event (www.nutraconference.com) to immediately follow Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, Calif. New Hope, a division of Penton Media and the producer of Expo West, made the announcement during the Nutracon 2001 show held here in July.

According to show organizers, the new dates and location will draw more attendees to both events. "It provides an opportunity for attendees from [both shows] to overlap and take advantage of the additional knowledge and exhibits that are unique to both events," said Kay Gazaway, New Hope's vice president of trade show operations.

This year's Nutracon drew approximately 600 executives to San Diego for two days of conferences and exhibits, New Hope (www.newhope.com) stated. Seminar tracks included Marketing, International, Scientific and the new Clinical Sessions track, designed to evaluate clinical findings on nutritional ingredients. During the show, three ingredients were honored for their scientific research and innovations. Sabinsa Corp.'s ForsLean won theNutrAward; Nutrition 21's Diachrome and Giantceutical's BioCalth were also recognized.

Todd Norton, president of Sabinsa Corp., said the company was pleased with the award and the Technology Transfer Showcase, a company-presentation opportunity held the day after Nutracon, was a valuable resource. "We were able to present our intellectual property information to interested purchasing agents," Norton said. "That was a real benefit."

Exhibits were available during the event, with show floor hours running from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day; however, the show did close an hour early the final day. "The show was a little disappointing," said Angela Walter from DMV Nutritionals, a sponsor of the keynote. "I'm not sure about the move for next year, as there are so many shows in that time frame."
