Organic Products Hard to Market in South Korea, Mexico

GREENFIELD, Mass.Organic products may be hard to market in South Korea andMexico due to lack of consumer knowledge and acceptance of organic products, according to the Organic Trade Association (OTA, www.ota.com),which released two reports summarizing the market for organic products in thetwo countries.

According to one report, OTA Market Overview: South Korean Organic Market, the greatest market potential in South Korea is for processed organic products. However, lack of consumer awareness of organic products may inhibit salesgrowth.

The second report, OTA Market Overview: Mexican Organic Market, statesmost Mexican consumers and natural food store and retail workers do not knowwhat organic means and associate the term with low-end, traditionalproduction methods. Therefore, getting consumers to pay a premium for organicproduce as a value-added product may be difficult, according the report.
