PISCATAWAY, N.J.Sabinsa Corp. (www.Sabinsa.com) received independent GRAS (generally recognized as safe) designation for its CitrinK ingredient for use in non-alcoholic beverages. CitrinK, a Garcinia cambogia extract, has been marketed as a dietary supplement ingredient in the United States since 1995 for use in formulations that are helpful in maintaining a healthy body weight and energy balance, and in beneficially influencing satiety. An independent panel of internationally recognized experts deemed CitrinK to be GRAS following a critical review of extensive safety data, including consideration of the unique manufacturing process and quality assurance procedures used to extract the product from Garcinia with its associated specifications. CitrinK, other salts of HCA and Garcinia extract have been the subjects of extensive toxicology studies. For the GRAS determination, results from animal testing that address the safety and/or toxicity of CitrinK and similar products were considered, as were the various clinical testing results and documented human experience investigations that have been published over the past several years.
