Sigma-Tau Reorganizes U.S. Operations

GAITHERSBURG, Md.Sigma-tauGroup reorganized its U.S. division and plans to relocate its U.S. operations toNew York. The major change is the creation of the Food and Beverage IngredientsDivision for the U.S. group Sigma-tau HealthScience (STHS), which will allow thecompany to focus its efforts on the growing functional foods market. STHS willrelocate all divisional management responsibilities to New York, with KenHassen, Ph.D., as chief operating officer and Paola Risi as general manager,global operations.

Hassen noted the company is currently developing new productsbased on Sigma-taus intellectual property portfolio. STHS plans to launchseveral new forms of L-carnitine that will deliver novel benefits and,consequently, new prospective growth within the category, he said.
