BENICIA, Calif.A study conducted on the efficacy of InterHealth Nutraceuticals Super CitriMax, a patent-pending form of (-)hydroxycitric acid (HCA), and presented at the 34th Annual Meeting of the Society of Toxicology in Baltimore, March 21 to 25, has been published in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry (260: 1,171-86, 2004) (www.kluweronline.com/issn/0300-8177/content).

The safety study evaluated the dose- and time-dependent effects of Super CitriMax on body weight, selected organ weights, hepatic lipid peroxidation and DNA fragmentation, histopathology, hematology and clinical chemistry of animals. The animals were divided into four groups and were given either a placebo or doses of Super CitriMax ranging from 0.2 percent (the recommended dosage) to 5 percent (25 times the recommended dosage) for 90 days. After 90 days, the animals taking Super CitriMax experienced a significant reduction in body weight with no adverse changes in the weight of major organs, hematology, clinical chemistry or histopahology, according to the study.
