Super CitriMax Studied

BENICIA, Calif.Two new studies on InterHealth Nutraceuticals SuperCitriMax, a patent-pending form of (-)hydroxycitric acid (HCA), confirm itssafety and efficacy, as well as its possible mechanism of action, according tothe company. The studies were presented at the 34th Annual Meeting of theSociety of Toxicology in Baltimore, March 21 to 25.

The safety study evaluated the dose- and time-dependent effects of SuperCitriMax on body weight, selected organ weights, hepatic lipid peroxidation andDNA fragmentation, histopathology, hematology and clinical chemistry of animals.The animals were divided into four groups and were given either a placebo ordoses of Super CitriMax ranging from 0.2-percent (the recommended dosage) to5-percent (25 times the recommended dosage) for 90 days. After 90 days, theanimals experienced a significant reduction in body weight with no adversechanges in the weight of major organs, hematology, clinical chemistry orhistopathology, according to the company.

The second animal study measured the effects of Super CitriMax on serotoninand dopamine and their metabolites. After 90 days of supplementation, the brainsof animals receiving Super CitriMax had a 12-percent increase in serotoninlevels and a 29-percent increase in dopamine levels. Researchers concludedchanges in serotonin, dopamine and their metabolites may play a key role in theweight loss and appetite suppression effects of Super CitriMax.
