Tonalin® Sales Up Almost 30Percent

LA GRANGE, Ill.CognisNutrition & Health announced sales for its Tonalin® CLA were up 29.2 percent over last year in the food, drug andmass channel, according to Information Resources Inc.; the overall category of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)products increased 10 percent.

Sales of CLA products containing Tonalin far outpace thosethat dont, said Nina Likins, marketing manager for Tonalin CLA(www.tonalin.com). Our branded ingredient strategy for Tonalin is based onquality and efficacy, which is quite important in the diet market. ... Clinical science sets Tonalin apart from the competition anddrives our marketing and advertising efforts. Its evident from the salesfigures that consumers continue to connect with our science-based messages andhave confidence in the Tonalin brand.

Likens cited Cognis No Regain campaign as evidence of the companys success. Cognishighlighted results that were published in the AmericanJournal of Clinical Nutrition, which found overweightsubjects who took 3.4 g/d of Tonalin CLA lost body fat during a 12-monthintervention and avoided fat regain in a one-year follow-up. Articles related tothe study generated nearly 75 million impressions in national publications,according to Cognis, while a radio news release was aired on 270 stationsnationwide.
