CENTURY CITY, Calif.Toyo Bio-Pharma developed Puer Flower, an extract of Pueraria thomsonii, a member of the kudzu plant family that grows in East Asia. The flowers of the plant have been used in Chinese medicine as far back as 600 AD to aid in weight management and liver detoxification. According to the company, recent research has shown Puer Flower Extract may help reduce visceral fat around body organs and other fat, such as cellulite. In one in-house, four-month study, human subjects taking 200 mg/d lost an average of 1.1 inches off their waist and lowered their body fat by 0.9 percent. The average body mass index (BMI) of subjects taking 300 mg/d of extract was 26.22 at baseline, 25.94 after four weeks, and 25.64 at eight weeks. At 200 mg/d, BMI measurements were 26.76 at baseline, 26.69 in week four and 26.62 in week eight. In lab studies, mice fed a high-fat diet for 25 days with 5-percent Puer Flower Extract had half the visceral fat and one-third less body fat when compared to the control group.

Mario Kahn, chief marketing officer, Toyo Bio-Pharma, stated: There are many possible applications for this safe and effective raw material, which is available as a granulated powder, liquid or tablet. It is a valuable addition to our portfolio and a cost effective ingredient that is proven effective in the weight loss category.
