Sunshine and smiles were the order of the day at StallionMountain Country Club, where the 6th Annual SupplySide West 2002 golf tournamentwas held on the Secretariat and Man O'War courses. "You couldn't ask formore perfect weather," said Bill Van Dyke of B&D NutritionalIngredients, the golf tournament sponsor, "and we really appreciate thephenomenal turnout."

A shotgun start at 9:30 set the 237 golfers in motion to playthe two courses. The biggest buzz on the Man O'War course was when Frank Ciara, vice president at Chelated Minerals, won $25,000 at the Hole-In-One contest."Wow! What do you say?" Ciara said about his play this year. "Thetournament is always great. We always love playing, and certainly this year itwas well-attended. As for the hole-in-one, it was nice because I had a couple offriends--my business associate and other business associates--with me, and itwas nice to have them witness it. It was a nice hole-in-one. I've had threebefore, and while they were nice, they were kind of a surprise and you don'texactly see them go in. This one was nice because it looked good right off theclub and we were kind of rootin' it on, and when it went into the hole, it wasgoing at a slow pace so it slowly disappeared. It was a neat hole-in-one, andeverybody got pretty excited."

And the talk of the Secretariat course was when Lucie Nichollsof Carmi Flavors got a hole-in-one on the Ladies Closest to the Pin contest. Itwas no big surprise at the luncheon when she was awarded the plaque for beingclosest to the pin.

Ciara and Nicholls were recognized prior to the awards ceremonyand raffle during the golfers' luncheon immediately after the tournament. Overtypical golf fare including hamburgers, hotdogs and salad, golfers listenedcarefully for their raffle numbers to be called. Prizes included a Nike golfbag, ladies' and men's golf shoes and clothing, gloves, balls, a Ping putter, and a Callaway bag.

During the awards ceremony, several golfers were recognized.Ciara was given a prize for the Hole-in-One contest and Nicholls was awarded theLadies' Closest to the Pin. Other winners of the day included Bernie O'Brien,Herbalife, Men's Closest to the Pin; Amy Cone, Kemin Foods, Women's LongestDrive; and Dan Stevens, Steven Young Worldwide, and Blake Christensen, Nature'sSunshine, tied for Men's Longest Drive.

As for total golf scores, the third place team, with a score of61, included Larry Zahradnik, B&C Nutritionals; Mike Fisher and Sam Wright,The Wright Group; and Dean Baltzell, Merical Vita-Pak. The second place team, with a score of 60, consisted of Jay Ragan and David Hewitt, Dupont ProteinTechnologies; Bernie O'Brien, Herbalife; and John Allison, ValentineEnterprises. And coming in at first place, also with a score of 60, were HowardSimon, American Ingredients; Denis DeLuca, Biotics; Greg Painter, Nutrilite; andMark Zumwalt, B&C Nutritionals. To determine first and second place teams, officials matched scorecards on the course's most difficult holes. Both teamshad identical scores on the first three, but on the fourth hole, the winningteam had a birdie and the second-place team had par.

Frank Ciara took home $25,000 with his hole-in-one. Ciara showedoff the ball and celebrated with Virgo's Peggy Jackson. Also with a hole-in-one,though not for cash, was Lucie Nicholls.
