U.S. Mills Acquires Farina

NEEDHAM, Mass.--U.S. Mills Inc. announced in early Februarythat it had acquired Holden Foods Inc., marketer of the Farina brand hot cereal.Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The Farina brand name dates back to 1898, when it was introduced by thePillsbury Co.; it was sold to Holden Foods in 1992. "We are very excitedabout the acquisition of this fine brand and the immediate opportunities Farinapresents for U.S. Mills," said Charles Verde, president of U.S. Mills. U.S.Mills already has several healthy cereals, including Uncle Sam Cereal, theErewhon line of organic cereals, and the New Morning line of cereals.

According to Verde, the U.S. Mills management team will assume responsibilityfor the Farina business; R. Emmet Holden, president of Holden Foods, will assistin the transition phase. For more information, contact U.S. Mills at (781)444-0440.
