World's Largest Ice Cream Cone
July 13, 2012
GLOUCESTER, EnglandHeston Blumenthal, chef-owner, The Fat Duck, Bray, Englandand world-renowned molecular gastronomist (although he dislikes the term)recently shattered the world record for the largest ice cream cone. As reported by the Daily Mail, his record-breaking creation stood over 13 feet tall and weighed in at about 1,000 pounds; a forklift was required to position the scoop atop the cone. The previous record-holding scoop measured about 8 feet tall.
Although The Fat Duck is currently menuing Kirsch ice cream that comes with the smell of the Black Forest, this cone was vanilla; the cone selection, waffle. The ice cream, donated by Walls, London (owned by Unilever), took a month to freeze. A jaunty cookie jutted from the side of the scoop, and he attempted to adorn the ice cream with sprinkles and strawberry syrupusing a catapult. Reportedly, most of the toppings neglected to stick.
The stunt was filmed for Blumenthals forthcoming television show, Hestons Big Idea.
Crowds who gathered to witness the spectacle were treated to standard-sized cones scooped from the hulking hill of ice cream by workers atop platform-equipped cranes.
