BioActives Receives Patent for Lutein Esters

WORCESTER, Mass.BioActives was awarded a new U.S. patent (No. 7,297,803) covering a process for the preparation of lutein ester concentrate. According to the company, the patent discusses a cost-effective method for making lutein esters, which can lead to a 50 percent cost savings for customers. The process takes advantage of a broader range of marigold oleoresins as a raw material, which can lower costs and make backward integration less difficult. BioActives develops bioavailable ingredients for cosmetic applications, and is now offering licenses to lutein ester users for product line expansions.
