CDC Launches New Dairy Funding Programs
GUELPH, OntarioThe CanadianDairy Commission (CDC) launched two new funding programs for manufacturers ofdairy and food products.
The new programs, the Direct Access Fund and the InnovationSupport Fund, allow eligible companies to seek expert advice directly from arecognized food science institution, and provide financial support for companiesdeveloping new and re-formulated dairy products, components and processedproducts made with milk or milk ingredients, respectively.
Examples of projects approved or being considered for fundingunder the new programs include incorporation and stabilization of milk solidsinto various liquid and dry mix beverages, incorporation of dairy ingredientsinto confectionary products and fortification of food products with dairyingredients.
The CDCs Direct Access and Innovation Support Funds arereally helping Canadian food and dairy companies to develop new healthier andinnovative products and packaging, said Kathryn Cooper, vice president ofmarket development and client services at the Guelph Food Technology Centre(www.gftc.ca). Several projects have already been approved, and dozens morecompanies have expressed keen interest in these user-friendly programs. Dairyingredients are being widely used in new products for their nutritional benefitsand ingredient functionality.
