HRF to Help African Farming Efforts

BOULDER, Colo.--The Herb Research Foundation (HRF) has announced its partnership in the Agribusiness in Sustainable Natural African Plant Products (A-SNAPP) project. The project is designed to help African farmers reap the benefits of an act signed by President Clinton to help sub-Saharan farmers.

Signed on May 18, the Trade and Development Act of 2000 encourages American business to trade with and invest in sub-Saharan African countries. A-SNAPP was developed after the Act was passed. Though HRF has been working with African farmers since 1992, A-SNAPP brings together other organizations, including Purdue University and the South African Agricultural Research Council, that will work to encourage sustainable farming practices and the cultivation of native plants for export. According to HRF, this will ensure that traditional herbs will always be in supply and will promote economic development.
