LAS VEGASAt the 2012 IFT Annual Meeting and Food Expo, Roger Clemens, president, IFT, announced the launch of "A World Without Food Science." The campaign, he said, was designed to educate consumers about the importance of food science and how it affects their lives.

"IFT is a scientific based organization," Clemens said. "We want to leverage the science to help consumers understand the dynamics of food, to educate them on the dynamics of the food supply."

The organization created a website for the consumer education campaign at worldwithoutfoodscience.org. It includes a primer on food science and the role of food scientists, as well as food facts, videos and K-12 educational materials.

"There is so much misinformation about food on the Internet; and most of that info is opinion, not evidence-based," Clemens said. "We want to provide scientific information in a way consumers understand. We want to use friendly terms without losing the intent."
