ANKENY, Iowa—Proliant Dairy Ingredients (ProliantInc.com) and Melrose Dairy Proteins have completed a contract under which Proliant will build a permeate processing facility next to MDP’s cheese and protein plant in Melrose, Minn. In addition to permeate, also known as deproteinized whey, supplied by MDP, Proliant will process permeate from outside suppliers at the new Melrose facility.  This agreement marks Proliant’s reentry into the dairy ingredients industry.   "Proliant Dairy and LGI are pleased to be back in the dairy ingredient business.  We look forward to growing our new business and many productive years with the MDP team, its partners Land O’Lakes and Dairy Farmers of America, and the central Minnesota dairy community," said Chris Snyder, president and CEO, Proliant Dairy, Inc. The Proliant facility will be capable of producing 70 million lbs. per year of deproteinized whey.
