Spirit of Women Launches Magazine

CLEVELAND, Ohio--Spirit of Women and Dowden HealthMedia's Custom Publishing Division in Montvale, N.J., launched Spirit ofWomen magazine in March. Spirit of Women (www.spiritofwomen.com)is a network of more than 100 hospitals and health care systems nationwide,anchored by the nonprofit Spirit of Women National Foundation, which isdedicated to advocacy, education and research in women's health. Participatinghospital groups will have the option to distribute the national version or tocustomize it with their own brand and editorial. Starting circulation is105,000, with estimated growth to 300,000 within one year.

In related news, the Spirit of Women Foundation awarded two$10,000 grants with funds donated by Emerita, a division of Portland,Ore.-based Transitions For Health. One grant was given to the University ofIllinois to fund a clinical program titled "Centering Midlife forWomen," where women will receive health care, participate in discussiongroups and develop support networks. The second grant was issued to GoodSamaritan Hospital in Baltimore to provide continuing medical educationpresentations on the benefits of complementary and alternative medicalinterventions.
