Healthy INSIDER Podcast: Sustainable Packaging Advances

Sustainability is becoming more than just a buzz word to food and beverage consumers. They want to ensure the environment is being cared for with packaging that, at the very least, is recyclable. Ginger Schlueter, assistant editor, paused at the Food Tech conference: Rethinking Food 2018 in Tel Aviv, Israel, to speak with Julie Schifter, vice president of business development, TIPA Corp., an Israeli company offering bio-based, fully compostable plastic for food and beverage packaging, featuring similar mechanical and shelf-life properties as ordinary plastic. Schifter explained why and how the company got started, discussed environmental hazards of plastics and compared the concept of compostable flexible packaging to how an orange peel decomposes.
