Acatris Soy Studies Show Positive Effects

GIESSEN, NetherlandsAcatris(www.acatris.com) presented recent study results at the Soy & Health 2004Conference held in Bruges, Belgium, in October. The two posters presentedexplained the latest study results of Acatris LifeLine products. Oneposter presented safety data of the SoyLife® Extra and LinumLife Extraproducts. The second poster illustrated the results of a clinical trialconducted on Chinese postmenopausal women, which found positive effects ofSoyLife on bone health, blood lipids and hot flashes. SoyLife is an ingredientmade from soy germ, in which isoflavones are concentrated. The source for LinumLife is flaxseed.

Although both flax and soy have been consumed insubstantial amounts for ages without problems, we still believe that the safetyof any isolated or concentrated form of these food items should be confirmed, said Marian Verbruggen, Ph.D., research and developmentdirector for Acatris.

Upon completion of a series of tests, it was concluded bothSoyLife Extra (10 percent isoflavones) and LinumLife Extra (20 percent lignans)did not show any mutagenic effects. The tests were performed according toOrganization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) standards.
