June 18, 2012
Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) has completed the construction of a commercial scale production plant in Decatur, IL, and has begun manufacturing CLARISOY 100, the first product in a new line of soy proteins. Last year, ADM signed an exclusive 20-year pact with novel protein developer Burcon NutraScience for the worldwide production, distribution and sale of Burcon's CLARISOY brand soy proteins. The license agreement provides ADM exclusive rights across all geographic regions and all potential product applications.
Randy Willardsen, senior vice-president, process, Burcon, noted ADM's position as a world leader in soy proteins for more than 20 years. "Their know-how and expertise in production and sale of food ingredientsincluding their commitment to innovationmakes ADM the ideal company to bring CLARISOY to market."
"The first commercially-produced CLARISOY 100 is an important achievement." said Johann F. Tergesen, president and chief operating officer of Burcon. "This milestone also marks a beginning, as ADM expects this first production plant to be the foundation for an entire CLARISOY product line." He further explained having Calarisoy production underway enables Burcon to focus its efforts on other promising technologies and innovative plant-based proteins. Burcon is developing a number of additional novel plant protein ingredients including PEAZAZZ, a uniquely soluble and clean-tasting pea protein isolate as well as Puratein®, Supertein and Nutratein canola protein isolates.
