AMINO GmbH, SA Bioproducts Join Forces

FRELLSTEDT, Germany--AMINO GmbH, a supplier ofamino acids for pharmaceutical and nutritional applications, formed a jointventure with SA Bioproducts (Pty.) Ltd., a supplier of amino acids for animalfeed in Umbogintwini, South Africa. Amino Byproducts (Pty.Ltd.AMBIO) willdevelop and produce specialty amino acids for the global marketplace.

Under terms of the agreement, SA Bioproducts will allocate partof its fermentation, downstream processing capacity for specialty amino acidsand be responsible for marketing products to the animal nutrition market. AMINOwill add technical steps necessary to develop and market final products for thepharmaceutical and nutrition markets, including purification, quality controland assurance, as well as all appropriate documentation.

AMBIO will be operated as an inter-company division, in effectconsolidating the major R&D efforts of both principals in one division.AMINO and SA Bioproducts will both act as contract manufacturers on behalf ofAMBIO. Lutz Thomas, the head of sales and marketing at AMINO, will act as themanaging director of AMBIO.

AMINO also announced an agreement with Merck SA IndustriasQuimicas - Brasil, whereby Merck will distribute AMINO Actives products to thenutraceutical market in Brazil.
