MAISONS-ALFORT CEDEX, FranceBio Springer, a manufacturer of yeast extracts, announced a 3% to 5% price increase for all new contracts. The company says the price increase is necessary due to the continuing rise of raw materials costs, including sugars and energy.

Bio Springer manufactures yeast extracts from primary grown yeast on sugar substrates (molasses and sugar syrups), through an energy intensive process. Bio Springer, a company of the Lesaffre Group, provides savoury yeast products for soups, sauces, seasonings, convenience foods, snacks, meat products, and culture media for fermentation industries.

According to Bio Springer, demand for yeast extract has grown sharply in 2010 and continues to be strong in 2011. The demand is driven by the growth of convenience food production, and by the growing interest for clean label savory ingredients.  In order to serve this growing demand, Bio Springer built two new production units in the U.S. and in China in 2010.
