Biorigin Begins $120M Expansion to Double Production

SAO PAULOBiorigin, a provider of natural ingredients for flavor enhancement, salt reduction, and longer shelf life of foods and nutritional supplements rich in amino acids and B-complex vitamins, recently began $120 million expansion of its facility in Quatá, Brazil, that will double production capacity by 2014. Biorigins expansion plan includes the Fermentation, Pure Culture, Autolysis and Drying sectors. Biorigin is a business unit of Zilor, a leading sugar and alcohol producers in Brazil.
This investment will allow Biorigin to continue its process of sustainable growth in the market of food and feed ingredients, as well as to innovate in products and services, as we have done during the last 10 years," said Mario Steinmetz, Biorigins general director. This expansion initiative was brought about by positive market perspectives and by health and wellness market trends of an increasing search for natural ingredients. Moreover, we have a production model that allows the traceability of the ingredients applied. In addition, we use renewable energy sources that supply the requirements of sustainability."
