Cargill Takes Over Sales, Marketing for Louisiana Sugar Refining

MINNEAPOLISCargill announced it has assumed sales, marketing and shipping of sugar produced by Louisiana Sugar Refining (LSR) of which Cargill is one-third owner.

"LSR is a key element in our sweetener supply strategy, and the LSR asset will fit nicely into the portfolio of products we bring to the market," said Alan Willits, president, Cargill Corn Milling North America. "We are very happy to have the refinery producing sugar."

Louisiana Sugar Refining, LLC, is a joint venture among Sugar Growers and Refiners, Inc., Cargill and Imperial Sugar Company. Sugar Growers and Refiners, Inc., is a Louisiana cooperative representing eight sugar cane mills and more than 700 Louisiana sugar growers in Louisiana. Imperial Sugar Company is America's second largest sugar producer.
